700 Blk of New Rodgers Rd.
Fire/EMS units were dispatched on Rescue Box 14-31 for an auto
extrication assignment involving a car under the rear of a tractor
trailer. First in Chief 14 reported he had a car under the rear of a
tractor trailer with a male heavily entrapped in the car, and gave
initial assessment of the patient's medical status as "CAO"
(conscious, alert, oriented). The car had struck the rear of the
truck, which was parked alongside the road, at a high rate of speed
and was underneath the trailer's ICC bar all the way up to the
dashboard. Engine 14-1 arrived on-scene and charged a handline for
standby in case it was needed. Although three rescue companies
were sent on the initial dispatch, command requested a 4th rescue to
the scene. Extricating the patient involved removing the doors and
roof; a dashboard displacement and lifting the trailer up approx. 22
inches in order to remove the male. EMS on-scene requested a
helicopter to the scene for transport as the male had major lower
extremity injuries and presented signs of having internal bleeding in
the abdomen area. University MedEvac 5 responded to a nearby LZ for
the scene flight. Extrication was completed at 0038 hrs, with the
patient being removed to the LZ for his flight to a Philadelphia
trauma center. The incident is under investigation by the Bristol Twp.
PD as a possible DUI for the car's driver and the tractor trailer
driver will be ticketed for stopping in a marked "no stopping or
standing" zone.
