Units were dispatched to the Hunters Mill Shoppes after a 911 caller reported a strong chemical odor near a 7-11 store located at one end of a one-story strip row of stores. Engine 7, which had just cleared the Schuyler Rd fire, was first in and reported a strong odor coming from a dry cleaners located a few stores down from the 7-11. Also responding were Engine 9, Ladder 9, Fire Squad 10, Fire Squad 3 which is the Haz-Mat Team, Batt. 2, and an ambulance from Plaza Vol. Rescue Squad. The chemical was determined to be "perc", a dry cleaning solvent. Firefighters from Fire Squad 3 entered the store after entry had to be forced due to the lack of an emergency contact and investigated the source of the strong odor. They were assisted by Fire Squad 10, while the other units stood by. The leak was determined to be as a result of a equipment malfunction, and after it had been seccured, the building was ventilated and units cleared.
